Process
How a plumbing support request is handled
Every job starts with a conversation and a look at the equipment. You see the options in plain language before anything is booked.
- 1
Tell us what you have
Describe the equipment, the symptom and where it is. Photos of the unit and its connections help us tell quickly whether the job is within scope.
- 2
We confirm the scope
If the work fits our water heating and related scope, we book a visit. If it does not, we tell you plainly so you can call the right trade. That saves everyone time.
- 3
Site review
We look at the equipment, shutoffs and connections and confirm what is needed. A quote follows the site review. A diagnostic fee may apply; confirmed at booking.
- 4
Work, test and walkthrough
We make the repair or connection, pressure- and leak-test it, and show you where the shutoffs are and what to check going forward.

Good to know
Typical requests, and where they land
Water heater swap with a worn shutoff
Replacing a heater often shows up tired valves or fittings. Replacing them as part of the job is in scope. See water heater installation.
Softener or RO hookup
Connections for water-treatment equipment, including feed, bypass and drain lines, are in scope. See softener installation and reverse osmosis installation.
A minor leak at the heater
A weeping fitting, valve or connection at or near water heating equipment is in scope. For a failed tank, see water heater repair.
Outside Kelvin Mechanical scope
We do not do drains, sewers, plumbing vents, bathroom renovations or new-construction plumbing. If your job involves any of these, please call a plumber who works in that area. We would rather tell you now than waste your time.
Ontario notes
Ontario notes on plumbing scope
Plumbing is regulated and divided by trade
Ontario plumbing work falls under building code rules that are applied locally, and permits depend on the municipality. We keep our plumbing support narrow and work with licensed and qualified professionals and trade partners, depending on the project scope. If your job is outside our scope, we say so.
Older homes, older valves
Houses from the 1950s to the 1990s may have shutoff valves that have not been turned in years. An old valve can seize, drip or fail to close. Replacing tired valves at the water heater is in scope. Do not force a stuck valve, and call us if it will not hold.
Condos, rentals and shared shutoffs
In condos and rental buildings, a shared shutoff or a leak into a unit below carries extra risk. Notify the building or landlord before water is turned off, and tell us who to contact. Property managers can send us the building details in advance.
Know your shutoffs before a cold snap
Winter is when leaks and failures are most disruptive. Locate your main water shutoff and the cold supply to your water heater before you need them. Emergency service is subject to availability, and we handle leaks at or near our equipment only.

Questions about Plumbing Support
Do you do general plumbing?
No. Our plumbing support is limited to water heaters, tankless units, electric and heat pump water heaters, water-treatment connections, appliance-related support and minor leak repairs. It does not include drains, sewers, plumbing vents, bathroom renovations or new-construction plumbing.
Can you fix a leaking faucet or toilet?
Those fall outside our scope. Our minor leak repairs are around water heating, water treatment and related equipment connections. For fixtures, a general plumber is the right call.
Can you do the plumbing connections for a softener or RO system?
Yes. Softener and reverse osmosis connections are in scope, including bypass, feed and drain connections. We can also look at your options in water treatment service.
Do you work on new builds?
No. We do not take on new-construction plumbing. Our work is with existing homes and replacement of existing equipment.
What should I do about a leaking water heater right now?
Shut off the cold water supply to the heater and the power or gas, then call us. Emergency service is subject to availability. A diagnostic fee may apply; confirmed at booking.
Can you fix a leaking pipe in my basement?
Only when the leak is at or near equipment we install or service, such as a water heater, a softener or a related connection. Leaking pipes elsewhere in the house are general plumbing and outside our scope. If you are unsure, send a photo and we will tell you plainly whether it is something we can take on.
Do you replace shutoff valves and supply lines at a water heater?
Yes, as part of working on the water heater. Old valves and flexible connectors are often replaced during an installation or repair. Replacing house-wide valves or piping outside the water heating area is general plumbing and falls outside our scope.
What is included in a water heater plumbing connection?
Supply lines, isolation or shutoff valves, a drain valve, relief valve discharge piping and expansion control where needed. For tankless and hybrid units, it also covers condensate routing. We test every connection for leaks before we leave. See water heater installation.
Do you connect appliances such as a washing machine or dishwasher?
Our appliance-related support is tied to water heating and water treatment equipment. General appliance hookups are not part of our scope. Tell us what you need when you book and we will confirm whether it fits, and say so plainly if it does not.
Who should I call for a clogged drain or sewer backup?
A plumber who works on drains and sewers. Those jobs are outside our scope. If water is backing up into a basement, call a drain specialist and your municipality's information line for guidance.
Can you move my water heater to another part of the house?
It depends on how far. Connections at the heater are in scope. Extensive new piping runs through walls and floors are general plumbing and outside our scope, and venting or gas changes add more to review. Send us photos and the proposed spot, and we will tell you if we can take it on.
Do I need to be home for plumbing support work?
An adult should usually be present, or arrange access, because we need to shut off water and reach the equipment. Tell us about tenants or neighbours who share your shutoff. Photos of the unit and its connections help us plan before we arrive.
