Match the equipment to the problem
Air and water products solve different problems, and no single product fixes everything. Describe what you notice, and we work back to the equipment.
- Dry air in winter, static shocks or cracking wood: a whole-home humidifier on the furnace or air handler.
- Dust, odours or a filter that clogs quickly: whole-home air purification or better filtration in the duct system.
- Musty smells or residue on coils and drain pans: a UV duct light, which can help reduce microbial growth on treated surfaces and support cleaner HVAC airflow.
- Scale on fixtures, spotted dishes and build-up in water heaters: a water softener after hardness testing.
- Taste or odour at the kitchen tap: an under-sink reverse osmosis system.
- Equipment you already own: air purifier service or water treatment service.
What a first air or water quality visit looks like
We look at the equipment and the space it will live in before suggesting anything. Water testing is part of the planning for a softener or reverse osmosis system, and a duct and furnace check is part of the planning for air products. A quote follows a site review.
- Air side: furnace or air handler model, filter slot, duct access and space for a return or supply connection
- Humidifier planning: water connection, drain connection, humidistat location and furnace compatibility
- Water side: hardness and incoming water results, the main shut-off, a drain, a power outlet and a bypass valve location
- Existing equipment: filters, UV lamps, salt, membranes and maintenance history
- Realistic expectations for each product, with no exact performance figures unless the equipment rating supports them
How these products work together, and where they stop
Filter terms vary a lot. True HEPA, HEPA-style, bypass HEPA, MERV media and electrostatic filters are different things, and we name which type a product is. We make no health or medical claims for air purification.
On the water side, a softener protects the whole house from hardness, while reverse osmosis polishes drinking water at one tap. They are often paired, and each needs regular maintenance to keep working as intended.
- A humidifier and a purifier can share one furnace, but airflow and filter space have to allow for both
- UV lights work alongside, not instead of, regular filter changes
- A softener installed ahead of an RO system helps protect its membrane
- Annual service keeps filters, lamps, pads and media doing their job
