The electrical work Kelvin Mechanical takes on
Our electrical work supports the way a modern home uses energy. It is deliberately controlled: defined projects in existing homes, usually tied to new equipment or an upgrade you have already planned.
- EV and Tesla wall chargers: Level 2 charging on a dedicated circuit, after a panel load calculation
- Panel upgrades and subpanels where the existing panel is short on capacity
- New circuits for equipment such as heat pumps, water heaters and chargers
- Pot lights and light fixtures, including wiring through finished ceilings
- Switches, dimmers and outlets, with GFCI or AFCI protection where the code requires it
- Solar panels: consultation, roof and site review, grid-tied design and batteries where applicable
Where the electrical scope stops
We do not take on broad new-construction electrical. Wiring a new build, a full addition or a gut renovation calls for a general electrical contractor and a different kind of project management.
If your project falls outside our scope, we say so on the first call and point you toward the kind of contractor you need. That is better than stretching into work someone else is set up to do well.
- Wiring for new builds, additions and large renovations
- Whole-building rewires and large electrical packages
- Anything not tied to the equipment and upgrades listed above
Permits, ESA notification and who does the work
Electrical work is completed by licensed electrical professionals or trade partners. In Ontario, anyone hired to do electrical work in a home must be a Licensed Electrical Contractor, and a notification of work is filed with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) before the work starts. We confirm who is responsible for each step, including permits, when we quote the job.
Kelvin Mechanical works with licensed and qualified professionals and trade partners, depending on the project scope. Ask which permit applies to your project at the quote stage, so nothing is left to chance on the day.
Why panel capacity ties heat pumps, water heaters and EVs together
Your electrical panel and service have a fixed capacity. A heat pump, an electric or heat pump water heater, an EV charger and solar all change how that capacity is used, which is why a load calculation comes before the equipment is chosen.
Planning them in one conversation avoids paying for a charger circuit this year and a panel upgrade next year for a heat pump. Heat pump installation and electric and heat pump water heaters both start with an electrical check for the same reason.
| Planned equipment | What the panel review looks at |
|---|---|
| Heat pump or ductless system | Outdoor unit and air handler circuits, disconnect and breaker size |
| Electric or heat pump water heater | A dedicated circuit sized to the unit nameplate |
| EV charger | Continuous charging load and the cable run from the panel |
| Solar and battery | Main panel rating, breaker space and the connection point |

Tell us what you want to add and which other upgrades are on your list. We review the panel, the location and the load, then quote after a site review.
- Have a photo of your panel and its label ready if you can
- Mention planned equipment such as a heat pump, charger or solar
- Ask about permits and ESA notification where required for your job
